The otağ is the great tent of a khan or a bey. There are no palaces in steppe life; governing, feasting and judgement all happen in this tent. Its door faces east, where the sun rises.
The inside is an order too: the hearth is in the middle, right and left of the door decide who sits where, and the far side is the place of honour. Kilims on the walls, a kopuz hanging from a post.
In Balbal, The Khan's Tent is the third floor of the Middle World, and the same name is a skeleton — a board with the silhouette of a tent. The Winter Camp and Iron Tent floors use it too, because all three happen indoors.
