Tulpar is the winged horse of the Turkic epics. In Kazakh, Kyrgyz and Tatar telling it is the hero's mount; nobody usually sees its wings, because the moment they are seen it loses its power.
Tulpar is not merely fast: it knows its rider, senses danger before it comes, speaks and gives counsel. In the epic the horse is half the hero — its death counts as his.
In Balbal, Tulpar's Path is the second floor of the Sky: hoofprints glowing in the clouds and "flying tiles" that slowly change place.
