Hidrellez is the night between 5 and 6 May. The name joins Hızır and İlyas: one wandering on land, one at sea, believed to meet once a year — and wherever they meet turns green.
Wishes are made that night. A wish is written on paper and tied to a rose branch, or drawn small on the ground and left by a stream so the water will carry it in the morning. Lighting a fire and leaping over it belongs to the night too.
In Balbal, Hidrellez Night is a seasonal floor: wish papers on the tree, a rose branch, moonlight.
